How did Grimes and Elon make such a sweet baby?
This week Daysia is trying (and failing) to keep the Love Island talk at a minimum and shares some of her favorite celebrity behavior this week (which includes Grimes baby). Meanwhile, Hannah talks about the hottest trailers for this week, Succession and The Kissing Booth 3—naturally (she has range!).

This Week's Fixations
What's taking up our brain space this week?
Daysia: Not to keep talking about the same show, but I’m feeling depressed about the state of this year’s Love Island UK series. I would write a lengthy rant about how infuriating it is to see all of the men continually choose blonde white women over the women of color, but I’d be beating a dead horse at this point. It is nothing new, despite promises of “the most diverse cast ever.” I was skeptical—rightfully so—because it’s one thing to introduce people from diverse backgrounds and another to pick diverse people with diverse types. Every single one of the men, white and not, have made it clear that they like “blondes.” How are non-”blondes” (read: non-white) girls supposed to compete if every single man is interested in a blonde white girl? Some of the original blonde white girls can’t even compete with each newly introduced blonde girl. It’s disheartening to say the least.
i’m so over black women crying coz they arnt these men’s type on this show. cast men who like them and stop putting black women through this shit. it’s not fair #loveisland

Anyways, things I’m obsessed with that are pulling me out of my post-Love Island slump: You’d think two demons (Grimes and Elon) would produce a little devil, but X Æ A-Xii’s laugh in this TikTok is angelic joy; this incredible profile of Saweetie by Hunter Harris—the Dr. Luke question was good, but what question was she going to answer about Quavo before her publicist intervened???; Selena Gomez blessing us with an absurd TikTok meme lip sync; and Nicholas Braun’s sheer shirt 😩😩😩:
This is the ideal male body. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.

Hannah: Okay, speaking of Nicholas Braun my heart could not take it this week when the trailer for season three of Succession finally dropped! Cousin Greg is going to be bumbling around our screens and back into our hearts this fall. I cannot imagine the pressure that comes with writing and putting this show together but my initial impression is that the upcoming season will not disappoint. I mean look at these screenshots from the trailer…
Another trailer that dropped this week that I’m excited about is for The Kissing Booth 3. A complete 180 from Succession but if you haven’t caught on by now there’s no accounting for my taste. I’m not ashamed to say that I have watched both of The Kissing Booth movies multiple times. They are just the right mix of fluff and substance that borders on the absurd (the casual display of wealth with no explanation, those houses!). Also Molly Ringwald as a mom! I’m not saying that The Kissing Booth is Gen Z’s Sixteen Candles but I’m not not saying it either. 👀
And on a serious note, I watch The Kissing Booth series for the plot!
The plot:
Has Lorde Dropped a New Album?
Not yet, but we are 42 days away. Her first live performance of “Solar Power” is set to be next Thursday, July 15 on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
In the meantime, listen to Snoh Allegra’s synthier take on R&B in her new album TEMPORARY HIGHS IN VIOLET SKIES, particularly “NEON PEACH” featuring Tyler, the Creator. Plus, Nicki Minaj hopped on the remix of BIA's "Whole Lotta Money."
Too Many Tabs
Jia Tolentino and Ronan Farrow dropped a bombshell investigation into Britney Spears’ conservatorship and the mechanisms keeping it intact in the New Yorker.
The New York Times’ Jasmine Hughes captured the singularity that is Lil Nas X and his quest to be a visibly queer, legendary pop star.
Vulture’s E. Alex Jung profiled the irreplicable Jennifer Coolidge, discussing her signature sense of humor and the new role breaking her out of the typecast.
Plus… Luca features an honest and intentional portrait of disability, Clairo’s escape to the country, Jazmine Sullivan’s return, Miranda Cosgrove reflects on iCarly and her journey to reboot, a peek into the lives of celebrity assistants, and these GORGEOUS Megan Fox photos.
