What does Ryan Gosling mean by Ken-energy?

What a week it has been in pop culture news—a Vegas wedding, a break-up that rocked New York, and a visit to "Albuquerque."

Daysia and Hannah both write about three things on the internet this week—Daysia on what brought her joy and Hannah on what made her go asdfjkl;.

Happy reading,

<3

Daysia and Hannah

This Week's Fixations

Daysia: A few things that have brought me joy always, but especially lately:

  • Mamma Mia, which premiered this week 14 years ago. I mean, who doesn’t love Mamma Mia? I recently watched the musical while on vacation a few weeks ago, and it is literally the most delightful experience! Like the movie, there’s a singalong at the end! My favorite thing ever is looking at drunk behind-the-scenes photos from the set because it just adds to the fun knowing that the cast seemed to have a good time while making the movie. We’re blessed they made a sequel! With Cher, no less! And an iconic end sequence

  • Keke Palmer! We’re so lucky to have her! Like most press she does, her Wired autocomplete interview was SO funny. The Twitter memes did not even begin to capture the comedy in this interview. Some highlights: working for Disney and Nick, her thoughts on sororities, her experience with Michael Ealy on Barbershop 2, her (ex!) best friend, her love of Dance Dance Revolution, and what she’d use the metaverse for.

  • And finally, any Barbie news. We’re just about a year away from the movie’s premiere, and I don’t care what people say—I’m dying to see Ryan Reynolds as Ken. I mean:

Hannah: Keeping in the spirit of the list, here are three things that I came across on the internet this week or were sent to me and my reaction to them:

  • If you don’t know, next year July 21 is going to be a big day for pretty much every actor in Hollywood as both Barbie and Oppenheimer will be released. I don’t understand how any of these movies got made because I feel like the entire budget would go with paying the actors’ salaries but luckily for us they are happening. I screamed with laughter when I saw this edit of the Oppenheimer poster for Barbie.

  • Speaking of Oppenheimer, Florence Pugh does seem to be more excited about it than her upcoming role in Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling. I wanna know the tea!

(h/t to our friend Emma for sending this as I ~famously~ still do not have TikTok.)

  • And less than a month later after a visit by Miss Gabriella Montez the East High campus was also graced by alum, Troy Bolt—I mean Zac Efron. Like I don’t know what is going on but I hope it actually means something and isn’t just a coincidence. I’m here for a High School Musical reunion!

(Also can we please take a moment to recognize Bart Johnson aka Coach Bolton’s comments on both Vanessa and Zac’s photos. 🥺)

Has Lorde Dropped a New Album?

She met another New Zealand icon recently: Kimbra!

ICYMI: FLO are those girlies! Listen to “Immature” and be amazed by those vocals!

Too Many Tabs

Tragically, the Brand is dead. Writer Shamira Ibrahim wrote about the significance of Desus and Mero’s success for Mic.

New York Magazine’s Lila Shapiro spoke to Nathan Fielder about his new show, The Rehearsal, making people uncomfortable, and “reality comedy.”

Nope is “a film only Jordan Peele could have made,” writes Gerrick D. Kennedy for GQ Hype in his story where he speaks with Peele and co-star of the sci-fi blockbuster, Keke Palmer.

Plus… the Weeknd gets sick and twisted, Lady Gaga’s Chromatica Ball closer is an… interesting choice!, name something more iconic than announcing your Vegas wedding via NEWSLETTER, is Hollywood miscasting Dakota Johnson?, lunch with your favorite fictional TV chefs, Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes both have Netflix movies coming out, and a secret wedding!
