What’s in and out this fall with celebs?
It’s Saturday again!
This week in the letter Daysia declares what is and out with pop culture and celebs this fall and Hannah reviews Don’t Worry Darling.
Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by Hurricane Ian. Here are some ways you can help, if you’re able.
Love and light,

This Week's Fixations
Daysia: It is officially fall! The turning of the season is ripe for overhauls and life changes! Here’s what’s in and out this autumn, according to recent celebrity news:
IN: Pooping with your spouse (á la Meghan Trainor/Daryl Sabara and Mila Kunis/Ashton Kutcher), publicly kissing in the East Village (see: Dua Lipa and Trevor Noah and… the whole Try Guy debacle), VEGAS RESIDENCIES (there are so many), Louis Tomlinson, Rachel Sennott-inspired slut eras, ADDISON RAE, and Love Island babies.
OUT: Barney and Friends, Ned Fulmer, Harry Styles (I’m sorry about this one! I love him, but he needs to retreat for a bit!), the Rita-Taika-Tessa polycule, this Sabrina Carpenter cover, and Trevor Noah at The Daily Show.
Hannah: Okay so if you haven’t seen Don’t Worry Darling yet maybe just scroll down to Lorde and Too Many Tabs because although I’m going to do my best to give a spoiler-free review I make no promises because I have thoughts about it!!
First, despite Harry Styles saying it “is a movie that feels like a movie” it really didn’t at least to me. It definitely looked like a movie—the set design and costumes were actually my favorite part—but it did feel like one because so much of the story was left unresolved or didn’t really make sense in the first place.
The plane crash, the earthquakes, what are the men’s jobs?? How does dying in The Victory Project result in dying in real life?
Vulture’s Roxana Hadadi summarized a lot of the same questions (plot holes) I had while watching DWD.
Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, and, of course, Miss Flo all gave great performances. Florence Pugh did her Florence Pugh thing (great acting LOL). Pine was a very believable charming, insidious, and misogynistic cult leader. Chan was faultless as the supportive wife but I wish we had more time to understand how she went from that to killing her husband! (Is she going to take over The Victory Project??)
That’s a running theme for me that we don’t get to see more of the women’s stories: I want to know about Peg who is constantly pregnant, what Violet’s deal is, more about Bunny who chose this life, and justice for Margaret (and Kiki Layne, though I’m glad she got her check and her man) a million times over.
In my opinion, this is not a feminist movie, or at least not any brand of feminism I would subscribe to. Wilde saying the film focuses on “female pleasure” is disturbing to me because (most of) the women can’t even properly consent to what happens to them in The Victory Project and and seem to be there against their will.
I realize I haven’t said anything about Harry Styles—he wasn’t bad really, just basic.
Overall, if I had to summarize this movie I would say the scene where Florence Pugh picks up an egg and it turns out to be fake is an apt analogy.
Has Lorde Dropped a New Album?
